Light, fluffy, and easy German pancakes are a breakfast (and dinner) favorite in our house. They only take a few minutes and only require a few basic ingredients. Think of this recipe like eggs and pancakes in one. You may also be familiar with dutch baby pancakes. German pancakes are very similar to dutch baby pancakes.
I had never had German pancakes until my husband and I got married, and I never want to go back. They are so, so good! We devour them like there is no tomorrow. My favorite part is the brown, crispy, and fluffy edges. Mmmm!
Here are the steps to make German pancakes:
Step 1: Place butter in dish and melt in oven.
Step 2: Combine eggs, flour, milk, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl.
Step 3: Pour batter into buttered dish.
Step 4: Bake for 20 minutes and Enjoy!
German Pancakes for Two
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS:
2 tbsp butter
4 eggs
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup milk
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
Optional Toppings: Powdered sugar, syrup, fruit, whipped cream, etc.
DIRECTIONS:
Place two tablespoons of butter in an 8x8 inch pan. Place in oven, then turn the oven on to 425 degrees (You want your butter to melt while your oven heats up).
In a medium bowl, combine eggs, flour, milk, sugar, and salt, and mix until thin and slightly lumpy. Be sure to check that there are no flour clumps.
By now, the oven should be heated to 425 degrees. Take out the 8x8 inch pan, and add the batter to the pan. Place the pan back into the oven and cook for 20 minutes.
Once cooked, the batter should have risen in the 8x8 pan. Once you take the German pancakes out of the oven, they will settle a little. This is normal. Serve warm with additional toppings if desired.
