Have you ever heard of food bowls? They seem to be the new hype nowadays and they look really good! They are full of color and they are so simple to make!
I was looking around on Pinterest and Instagram and found that these food bowls, or buddha bowls, are a really great option for an easy meal idea! You can create and customize them any way you want to.
Remember, there is no “right” recipe for a food bowl. Here are some guidelines when making your food bowl:
Create your base:
A good base includes a grain product. This can be white rice, brown rice, quinoa, couscous, noodles, etc.
For our base, we did cilantro lime rice. Find my recipe here.
Choose a fat:
Can include things like: avocado, olive oil, nuts, etc.
Pack your protein:
Choose among items like: beans, eggs, pork, chicken, etc.
For our protein, we added pulled pork.
Add a little something extra:
Can include other toppings like: fresh herbs, garlic, tomatoes, spices, veggies, sauces, cheese, etc. Feel free to change it up however you would like.
Then we topped our food bowl off with tomatoes, avocado, and a tortilla. It was so good!
Finally, remember that your food bowl is YOURS! This recipe is super easy if you do not have a lot of time and want to just throw things together; plus it is a fun way for every member of your family to choose what they want.
All in all, it is so fun to add toppings that have different colors, tastes, and different textures.
Here is what my husband and I made for our food bowl meal this week! We added cilantro lime rice, pulled pork, tomatoes, avocado, and topped it off with some tortillas. It was so good!
