When you first move out of your parents house, you may or may not have an assortment of kitchen items, however, I am here to let you know which products I like, and which items I recommend.
When preparing for college or for living on your own, you may not have a lot of money, which is why focusing on the kitchen products that you will actually need is crucial. Once you have a good idea of what you really need, then you can go about and purchase additional items.
Here is a list of the few items that I started off with and have used pretty heavily:
2-set Frying Pan - Before I moved, I was told to get this pan or that pot, but my grandma was smart when buying me a set of two frying pans. A smaller one and a larger one really saved me time and effort when cooking in the kitchen.
Mixing Bowls - At first, I didn’t think I would use mixing bowls very much. But actually, my roommates and I used them so much my freshman year, and I use them so often now! They are great to use as a popcorn bucket, hold snacks when final weeks came around, and I occasionally used the smallest one to eat cereal out of, because sometimes the other dishes didn’t get washed (sorry mom). But they can be so versatile and I love the brand I have.
Panini Maker - Now obviously this is one that you may be thinking, “Kaity I am not entirely sure if I would use this.” And you know what? That is okay! You know yourself best. But I use my panini maker so much! From paninis, to grilled cheese and any other kind of sandwich, to other dishes, it was my go-to nearly every single day. It heated up so quick and my patience after a long day was thin, so this really encouraged me to actually cook a warm meal when I got home.
Tupperware Set - this is important because not only can you use them as mixing bowls, but you can also use them to pack lunches in the beginning of the week, so you can grab and go! Helps save so much time in the mornings, and you don’t need to worry about making lunch that day.
Pot - The specific pot that I have linked is from IKEA. And the best part? The lid is a strainer! I can’t tell you how many times this saved me from getting the colander or strainer out.
Chip/Bag Clips - These are so important! I cannot tell you how often I used these. When I first bought them, I didn’t think I would use them, but when you are a family of one or two people, you are not going to eat an entire bag of chips in one sitting. But if you do, I’m not judging!
Cereal Containers - I’ve said this before, and I will say it again, I love breakfast foods and I especially love cereal. When living with roommates, you may not have a lot of pantry space in your cupboards, however, you also don’t want your cereal getting smashed, so this was a win in organization for me.
Let me know which kitchen gadgets you absolutely love, and which maybe didn’t work out as well as you thought they would.
