Creating Your Own Cookbook

You have all of these recipes lying around the kitchen, on Pinterest, in the notes section in your phone, and some that aren’t even written down yet. Where do you begin with making a cookbook of your own?

Something that I believe is a common worry that people have is that they feel the need to have a cookbook that is beautiful and elegant. They feel that they need to spend a lot of time on it. I believe that creating a cookbook should be the opposite. Some individuals do want to have a book that is printed and bound, and some would like to have a cookbook that is spiral bound. And that is okay! If you feel that you would like to have

something elegant and extravagant, go for it! You can find a recipe cookbook creator online at places such as Heritage Cookbook and Shutterfly.

However, I think that a recipe book can be as simple as purchasing a three-ring binder and some sheet protectors.

When I got married, I had quite a few recipes lying around. I had recipes that I had tried and loved, some that my mother-in-law made, and some that my mom made while I was growing up. Believe me when I say that I had them all over the place. I felt so overwhelmed with trying to keep track of them and how I could keep them all in one place. I eventually would forget that I had this one saved on Pinterest, and that one saved on the notes on my phone, and felt like I was losing my recipes.

I got up one Saturday and compiled them all on my dining room table. I started a simple google doc and typed them all. I had a folder that I had kept for years with scraps of paper that I had written recipes on or had printed. I worked all day that Saturday. In fact, I started at about 8am after breakfast and went until about 4 or 5pm that day and just typed them all up! It took forever and I did it all in one go, but I finally had them in one spot! You don't have to commit one day to typing up your recipes, but if you set aside some time each day, I promise you will have it completed in no time!

I printed them all and stuck them in page protectors where I could easily access them in the kitchen. I finally had the start of my own cookbook! I also enjoy the page protectors because if I accidentally spill spices, water, or ingredients on them, I can easily wipe them off with a wet rag and the pages are as good as new.

I love the idea of having all of my favorite recipes in one place. And another bonus is that when I am at the store, I can pull up the recipes on my phone because it is on the google doc, and I know exactly what I need for what recipe! I would highly recommend that you use a google document so you can access your recipes from anywhere at any time. Time and time again, I am so glad that I was able to put my recipe book together, and I am constantly adding to it. It is so easy to go back to that same google document, print a new page, and add it into a new page protector in my recipe book. It is nothing fancy, but it works perfectly for me.
